BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Sept 8, 2022)– It seems like the South-East rather than the North-West is becoming the region with the most precipitation. We wanted to go race Thursday night, Friday night and Saturday night but every track in the Deep-South had to scratch their schedules do to massive amounts of water falling from the sky… Oh but wait, there was one track left that managed to keep the clouds from raining on their parade and we were lucky enough to find it.

With Crew Chief Josh Adkins in tow, we took our Torco Racing Lubricants / JCM Motorsports Crate Late Model down to Clanton, AL to a new & up-coming 3/10-mile layout racetrack called Buckshot Speedway with its 11-degrees of banking.

This was another new track for me having only gone there one other time to sit in the stands and watch an event. The track surface is pretty smooth save for one good-size hole/bump, down low between turns 1 & 2 and for the size of track it is, it felt pretty fast.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Sept 6, 2022) – As good as our Torco Racing Lubricants / JCM Motorsports Dirt Late Model was at the last Crate Race’n USA (CRUSA) race, we were on the other end of the scale when we ventured over to Senoia, GA to tackle one of the trickiest tracks in the southeast.

From its first race back in 1969, this fabled 3/8-mile track has hosted some of the sport’s biggest stars and having gone from clay to asphalt and back to clay (in 2009), the tracks clay-surface is known for being as slippery as they come. As we found out ourselves, this is not a place that you can just show up with your “normal set-up” on the car and run well. We knew the reputation of the track but as the saying goes, “seeing is believing” and now we know what a slick race track feels like.

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (Aug 19, 2022) – We were finally able to get some races in with our Torco Racing Lubricants / JCM Motorsports Dirt Late Model. It has been the rainiest summer I can remember and while it’s “nice and green” here in The South, all this water is really cramping our racing-style.

After being rained-out for a few weekends, we got to run our car at the famed Talladega Short Track that sits just across the road from the even-more-famous Talladega Super Speedway here in Alabama. This race happened on August 13th as the upgraded “Bull Ring” hosted a full-card a racing classes on a finally-clear Saturday night.

Having been to this track many times as both a spectator and a crewman, it was my first time on “the other side of the fence”. We had a pretty good Hot Lap session and thanks...

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (July 7, 2022) – As we continue with our JCM Motorsports dirt program this summer, Crew Chief- Cale Finley and I took our #19m Dirt Late Model up to Moulton Speedway on Friday night and then followed it up by running at North Alabama Speedway on Saturday.

The Moulton event was a Crate Racin’ USA series race featuring many of the top “Crate 604” cars in the South East. Having run at this track a few times this season, Cale knew exactly what set-up the car needed and I felt confident we had what it took to battle these seasoned drivers.

After a good Hot Lap session, we lined up for the 2-lap Qualifying. I put in a pretty good first lap and then nailed-down turns 1&2 on the second, going into Turn-3 I came off the throttle a car-length too early and the car tightened-up in me going into Turn-4....

BIRMINGHAM, Alabama (May 23, 2022) – We’re getting faster with our Torco Racing Lubricants/ JCM Motorsports 604 Crate Dirt Late Model. Cale Finley and I have been making trips up to both Moulton and North Alabama Speedway’s for their respective “weekly shows” in the last couple of weeks. I am happy to report that the speed is coming along as we’re getting faster and more consistent with each race..

We ran at North Alabama Speedway at the end of April and competed in a combined 604 Crate and Limited Late Model race. While the Limited cars have a bit more power, they also carry a bit more weight so our speeds were pretty comparable. We qualified 3rd and once the race started, we did a good job of holding onto the lead-pair of cars. Running caution-free, the 25-lap race was over in a flash but passing under the Checkered Flag in 3rd position felt pretty good.
