Brenden Smith shines in JCM Motorsports debut at Gateway Dirt Nationals
Making his first start behind the wheel of the JCM Motorsports No. 19M machine over the weekend, Brenden Smith was selected for Friday's preliminary night at The Dome at America's Center (St. Louis, Mo.) and was among 61 competitors for night two of the Gateway Dirt Nationals.
Smith kicked off the evening by going second-fastest in his qualifying group before he picked up a heat race win by outrunning Ricky Thornton Jr. After the pit stop challenge, Brenden was slated to start on the second-row for the 25-lap, $10,000-to-win preliminary feature. Smith battled hard alongside his fellow Floridians Mark Whitener and Kyle Bronson and wound up on the podium third.
The result locked him into Saturday's $70,000-to-win finale where he would start on the front-row beside Bobby Pierce. In the 40-lap main event, Brenden fell back around halfway before rallying to finish inside the Top-10 in seventh.
