Spencer Hughes fifth in Cowboy Classic; Top-10 finish in FNiA opener at Macon Speedway
Following the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series to Missouri, Spencer Hughes was among a stout 63-car field at Lucas Oil Speedway (Wheatland, Mo.) for the first night of the Show-Me 100 weekend.
For Thursday's $10,000-to-win Cowboy Classic, Spencer laid down a strong lap in qualifying before parlaying it into a heat race victory. Starting from the third-row in the $10,000-to-win feature, Hughes scored a Top-5 finish in fifth.
Looking to keep the momentum going on Friday, Spencer finished runner-up in his heat race before making up two spots in the feature to finish 10th.
With a pair of Top-10 finishes, Hughes locked the JCM Motorsports No. 19 into the seventh-starting position for Saturday's Show-Me 100. Running inside the Top-5, Spencer ran into trouble on lap nine after he spun in turn four. Spencer pulled in and recorded a 31st-place DNF.
Making a stop at Macon (Ill.) Speedway on Tuesday afternoon for the $20,000-to-win Castrol FloRacing Night in America opener, Hughes weathered a wild 50-lap feature to finish inside the Top-10 in ninth.
