Herrington scores Hunt the Front victory at Duck River; collects $5,000 mid-season championship

Wil Herrington entered the JCM Motorsports No. 19M into Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series / Ultimate Super Late Model Series competition on Saturday afternoon at Senoia Raceway (Senoia, Ga.) for the co-sanctioned Independence Shootout.

With a stout 39-car field on hand, Herrington was relegated to a B-Main after being unable to transfer through his heat race. Earning the 21st-starting spot in the $10,000-to-win main event, Wil moved forward seven spots to finish 14th.

Wrapping up the mid-season points chase at Duck River Raceway Park (Wheel, Tenn.) on Sunday, Wil clicked off the second-fastest lap in his qualifying group before picking up the win in his heat race. Rolling off from the front row in the 40-lap feature, Herrington battled to the runner-up position before inheriting the lead after race leader Sam Seawright pulled in with issues. Wil led the final four laps to bank the $7,500 triumph while also collecting the $5,000 mid-season championship.

Wil currently leads the HTFSDS point standings at the series' summer break.
